The Artist: Nilo Santiago

 

Nilo Santiago has been a constant winner of national art competitions, both in the United States and his native Philippines. He has had dozens of solo exhibitions and has been in over a hundred group and juried art competitions. He has exhibited his paintings all over the United States, Manila, Berlin, Germany.

      Nilo is affiliated with numerous art organizations such as the Society of Illustrators, New York City; American Society  of Aviation Artists; Society of Filipino American Artists; The Art League in Virginia, etc. His paintings are in private and public collections.

      As the official artist of the United States Air Force , Nilo painted aviation arts, murals, portraits, and anything  Air Force Mission related. His paintings are exhibited at the Pentagon and Air Force Installations all over the United States. They are used as illustrations of Air Force History books, book jackets, posters, and other printed materials. The Air Force flew him all over “has brilliantly conveyed his artistic talent in over the country  and abroad to gather reference materials for his paintings.  

     “Nilo Santiago has brilliantly conveyed his artistic talent in over 200 paintings capturing the excellent and great history of the Air Force Mission. His outstanding dedication, selfless services, and loyalty reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force...” part of the citation for his 

“ Outstanding Civilian Career Service Award “ - upon his retirement in 2003 after 26 1/2 years of Federal Service.

      Nilo  obtained his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila. He attended Howard University in Washington,DC for his graduate studies. He immigrated to the United States and has lived in Washington, DC since 1964.
