Philly Flower Show Trip, March 2019

GHBC residents and staff plan trips of varying kinds and lengths to provide residents continuing opportunities to learn and to enjoy the world outside our walls. There are regular visits to museums and cultural events in the Washington DC area as well as occasional trips to museums and sights further afield. Multi-day adventures, like cruises, are organized as well. Only the trips listed below are organized by the Trips & Outings Committee. For questions about these trips, contact the Chair of GHBC Trips & Outings, Carolyn Buttolph (703-842-3177 or Trips organized by other departments and committees can be found on the Coming Events page.

Residents of GHBC and GHA as well as members of Goodwin House At Home and the Priority Club are part of the GH Family. Families do things together, and friends of family can be invited to join the group.

We are planning several more Goodwin House Family trips. In September, we are already planning a cruise to Bermuda. (You need to plan far in advance for cruises.) And a trip to Philadelphia in October.

Trips are publicized and assembled several months in advance of the date. Items marked GH Family are for all members of the Goodwin House family (as described above). The extended GH Family should contact the Chair of GHBC Trips & Outings, Carolyn Buttolph (703-842-3177 or, to pose questions or register. All other items are for GHBC residents only. GHBC residents may sign up for trips and outings in the GHBC Business Center, 7-10 days before a scheduled event.

The Trips and Outings group plans many trips. A few are Family trips that include residents of GHA and GHBC as well as members of GHAH and the Priority Club. However, most other trips are intended for residents of GHBC and are limited to 14 participants (the capacity of the GHBC bus). Residents sign up for these trips simply by adding their names to the registers which are available in the GHBC Resident Business Center.

Recently, a member of the Priority Club asked if (and how) he might sign up for one of these trips. That
question resulted in some head scratching. However, an answer has been found and will serve until a better
solution is devised.

Aside from Family trips where “first come, first served” prevails, we now will offer a Non-Resident Wait List
(NRWL for short) for trips intended for residents. A few days before the trip is scheduled, if there is still
space available, the NRWL will be used to fill the bus.

If you are interested in adding your name to the NRWL, simply call Carolyn Buttolph at 703-842-3177 or
email her at Be sure to specify the trip and date. Also be sure to provide a phone
number for contact – a cell phone is best.

PHILLY ART MUSEUMS: October seems so far away. However, for the October trip to Philadelphia Art Museums, we are just 16 spots away from filling the motor coach with 48 passengers. We will visit three great sites – the Museum of Art, the Rodin Museum, and the Barnes Collection. Departing here on Wednesday, October 23, we’ll arrive in Philly about noon and lunch at the Museum of Art. Later we’ll go to a restaurant for dinner. Afterwards, we’ll go to our hotel. In the morning, on Thursday, October 24, we’ll head for the Rodin Museum. From there, we’ll go to the Barnes Collection. Then, after a late lunch, the bus will pick us up about 2:30 p.m. and start for home. The cost will be $265 per person (double occupancy). Single occupancy is $334. Of course, admission to all three art museums is included, as is transportation by motor coach, dinner, hotel, and breakfast. Also, expect snacks and water as we travel by motor coach. This is a GH Family trip, open to GHA, GHAH, and the Priority Club.

Buses will pick up residents from the main lobby unless otherwise designated.
