Many activities are offered each month and all residents are encouraged and welcome to attend. Click the link below to view the activity schedule for the current month.

AL Meeting with Ruth-Monthly meetings for residents are held on AL and on The Terrace. The purpose of the meetings is to enable residents to get together to discuss any problems, concerns, or suggestions. The meetings are facilitated by Ruth Reagan, Director of Social Work. During Assisted Living meetings, news is shared about what is going on in the GH community, and guest speakers are often invited to talk about issues of interest. Recent discussion topics have included Home Care, the Palliative Care program, Dining Services, US mail service, and prevention of falls.
Bible Study-Third floor residents gather with the GHBC Chaplain in the AL community room to discuss a Bible book or a spiritual concept of their choosing. For example, during Summer 2016, the group looked at Job and in Fall 2016 looked at Ruth. Depending on the interest of the group, they occasionally discuss other spiritual topics of interest fitting with the group’s needs or the season of the year.
Chair Exercises-Chair Exercise is a fun 30-minute total body workout, that focuses on improving muscular strength, coordination, and joint range of motion. The instructor uses fitness props and equipment to keep participants moving and engaged in this energy boosting workout. Classes are held in the 3rd floor Community Room Monday-Friday at 10:45am.
FDR Fireside Chat-Join us in AL Crossroads area to listen to old Fireside Chats from past President FDR.
Food for Others-GHBC’s service project. Residents come together to help fill bags with different snacks to help families in need. Food for Others is scheduled twice per month and occurs in the 2nd floor Community Room.
Kreeger Museum Outing-A monthly outing to attend the Conversations program held at the Kreeger Museum in Washington, DC. This special program is specifically designed for individuals with memory disorders and their caregivers. The program uses art and music to "stimulate reflection, reduce stress, and increase communication and sociability."
Making Sandwiches for the Homeless-Residents prepare sandwiches to donate to a local homeless shelter. This program is scheduled on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 2:00 PM and takes place in the 3rd Floor Community Room.
Music with Bob & Anne- Join us each Wednesday at 4:00 PM for a fun, entertaining community sing-a-long that includes patriotic songs, hymns, folk songs and popular songs from the 40's and 50's. Anne Soens plays each tune on the piano as Bob Grathwol cheerfully leads the group with vocals with assistance from Clarence Zuvekas. Each resident receives a lyric sheet for each song.
Scenic Drives- Each month residents have the opportunity to relax and enjoy a ride around a chosen destination. Past destinations have included Mt. Vernon and the Tidal Basin.
Show Tune Extravaganza-This one hour get-together is for folks who like music and enjoy singing for fun. The selections are familiar and popular songs from the Twenties to the Sixties. Led by Gay and Susan, residents sing show tunes, standards, seasonal favorites, and patriotic songs. Lyrics are provided.
Visits with Charley the Dog-Charley is a white standard poodle and a certified therapy dog who visits every Tuesday to offer individual visits to residents.
