Council & Committees It’s Your Home. Get involved and make a difference. Our GHBC Committees cover a wide range of interests that allow residents to keep a finger on the pulse of daily GHBC life. Click HERE for a table of all committee meetings by week of the month. ARTS COMMITTEE supports an arts program that enhances the lives of our GHBC resident community. The committee is involved in arranging resident and guest art exhibits as well as trips to local galleries and on-site art classes and programs led by the GHBC Art Center coordinator, residents, and guest artists. BUILDING OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE ("BomCom") deals with issues including apartment maintenance, the operation of utilities and services, and the correction of hazardous conditions and practices. COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE is responsible for a host of outreach activities and services to our surrounding North Virginia community. Meets 2nd Thursday of each month, 2:00 p.m., Top of the West. DINING SERVICES COMMITTEE evaluates resident suggestions and concerns regarding GHBC food service. They work closely with the Dining Services staff for improvement in food quality, nutrition, and methods of service. Meets 3rd Thursday of each month, 9:30 a.m. in the Board Room. ELECTION COMMITTEE conducts the nomination and election process for all regular and special elections for members of the Resident Council; in coordination with the Resident Council establishes the timetable for each annual election cycle; encourages residents to actively recruit candidates; provides the results of the elections to the community; and maintains a record of incumbents for each Resident Council position. EMPLOYEE GIFT FUND COMMITTEE is responsible for the overall operation of the annual campaign to solicit and receive monetary donations from residents and others for distribution to GHBC employees as gifts at the holiday season. Responsible for tracking the overall financial condition of GHBC to assure that it remains financially capable of delivering quality life-care to residents. Meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. in the Formal Parlor. GREEN TEAM COMMITTEE raises awareness among residents and staff of ways our personal and collective practices can contribute to a more sustainable future for the earth. The Committee sponsors programs that seek to minimize waste, reduce energy consumption, encourage recycling and composting throughout GHBC, and inform our in-house community about significant national and regional environmental issues. HEALTH COMMITTEE works closely with the GHBC health leadership team, providing a way to bring resident health concerns and questions to leadership and to support their efforts to provide the highest quality health care to our resident community. LIFE ENRICHMENT COMMITTEE provides a vehicle for feedback and collaboration between the Life Enrichment Department and the GHBC resident community. The areas of concern include: Arts, Fitness, In-House Events, Movies, Music, Trips and Outings, and Volunteers. Since each of these areas has a committee, the Life Enrichment "umbrella" meets only at the request of these committees or the Life Enrichment Department staff. MARKETING COMMITTEE assists the work of the GBHC Marketing Department. Among its duties are the assembling and labeling of marketing materials and actively participating in marketing events. MUSIC COMMITTEE promotes the availability of quality music to GHBC residents, both on-site performances and free or low-cost performances in the local area. They make available information from all faith traditions. Its principal work is presenting an annual Senior Quest for Meaning Program, a series of stimulating lectures, panels, and programs each fall and spring on inter-religious and humanistic reflections on basic issues of human life.
