It’s Your Home. Get involved and make a difference. Our GHBC Committees cover a wide range of interests that allow residents to keep a finger on the pulse of daily GHBC life.

ARTS COMMITTEE supports an arts program that enhances the lives of our GHBC resident community. The committee is involved in arranging resident and guest art exhibits as well as trips to local galleries and on-site art classes and programs led by the GHBC Art Center coordinator, residents, and guest artists. Meets 3rd Friday every month, 2:30 p.m. in the Art Center. BUILDING OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE ("BomCom") deals with issues including apartment maintenance, the operation of utilities and services, and the correction of hazardous conditions and practices. Meets 2nd Thursday of each month, 10:00 a.m. in the Board Room. Contact: Chair: Betty Lou White, apt. 711, ext. 7427, 2023 Resident Council Liaison: Bob Mansker.

COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE is responsible for a host of outreach activities and services to our surrounding North Virginia community. Meets 2nd Thursday of each month, 2:00 p.m., Top of the West. Contact Chair: Jamie Gallagher, apt. 1219, ext. 7678, 2023 Resident Council Liaison: Jamie Gallagher.

DINING SERVICES COMMITTEE evaluates resident suggestions and concerns regarding GHBC food service. They work closely with the Dining Services staff for improvement in food quality, nutrition, and methods of service. Meets 3rd Thursday of each month, 9:30 a.m. in the Board Room. Contact: Chair: Mike Molino, apt. 875, ext. 3149, 2023 Resident Council Liaison: Mike Molino.

ELECTION COMMITTEE conducts the nomination and election process for all regular and special elections for members of the Resident Council; in coordination with the Resident Council establishes the timetable for each annual election cycle; encourages residents to actively recruit candidates; provides the results of the elections to the community; and maintains a record of incumbents for each Resident Council position. EMPLOYEE GIFT FUND COMMITTEE is responsible for the overall operation of the annual campaign to solicit and receive monetary donations from residents and others for distribution to GHBC employees as gifts at the holiday season. FINANCE COMMITTEE works directly with the Administration in matters of financial interest to GHBC residents. Responsible for tracking the overall financial condition of GHBC to assure that it remains financially capable of delivering quality life-care to residents. The committee meets regularly, 3rd Wednesday of each month, 3:00 p.m., in The Pointe Staff Conference Room. FITNESS COMMITTEE  Supports fitness programs at GHBC. Meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 1:00  p.m. in the Formal Parlor.  Contact: Co-Chairs: Nancy DeMarco, apt. 520, ext. 7372,; Susan Daniels, apt. 272, ext. 3162, 2023 Resident Council Liaison: Jane Gore.

GREEN TEAM COMMITTEE raises awareness among residents and staff of ways our personal and collective practices can contribute to a more sustainable future for the earth. The Committee sponsors programs that seek to minimize waste, reduce energy consumption, encourage recycling and composting throughout GHBC, and inform our in-house community about significant national and regional environmental issues. Most work is done by sub-committees. Meets 4th Monday, 11:00 a.m., in the Board Room. Contact: Coordinator: Sally Recinos, apt. 618, ext. 7452, 2023 Resident Council Liaison: Wren Gurney.

GROUNDS COMMITTEE is concerned with the care, maintenance, and improvement of the grounds that surround GHBC. They are a direct channel for resident concerns regarding the grounds and provide assistance to the Grounds Supervisor. The Committee also maintains the Knoll Garden with assistance from the Grounds Supervisor. Meets 3rd Wednesday of each month, 1:30 p.m., in the Board Room. HEALTH COMMITTEE works closely with the GHBC health leadership team, providing a way to bring resident health concerns and questions to leadership and to support their efforts to provide the highest quality health care to our resident community.  Meets 1st  Friday of each month (except August), 10:00 a.m., Top of the West. LIFE ENRICHMENT COMMITTEE provides a vehicle for feedback and collaboration between the Life Enrichment Department and the GHBC resident community.  The areas of concern include: Arts, Fitness, In-House Events, Movies, Music, Trips and Outings, and Volunteers. Since each of these areas has a committee, the Life Enrichment "umbrella" meets only at the request of these committees or the Life Enrichment Department staff. MARKETING COMMITTEE assists the work of the GBHC Marketing Department. Among its duties are the assembling and labeling of marketing materials and actively participating in marketing events. MOVIE COMMITTEE chooses movies for residents' viewing on Saturday night in the Auditorium. The Movie Committee meets monthly on the third Monday in the Board Room at 3:00 p.m.  Place suggestions in the Suggestion Box located in the Resident Business Center or to the Chair. MUSIC COMMITTEE promotes the availability of quality music to GHBC residents, both on-site performances and free or low-cost performances in the local area. SPIRITUAL LIFE COMMITTEE provides opportunities to enhance the spiritual life of all GHBC residents. They make available information from all faith traditions. Its principal work is presenting an annual Senior Quest for Meaning Program,  a series of stimulating lectures, panels, and programs each fall and spring on inter-religious and humanistic reflections on basic issues of human life. Meets as needed. TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE provides a forum for residents to assist other residents and the Administration in the provision of technology equipment and services. The Committee meets the first Wednesday of each month, 3:00 p.m., in Top of the West. TRIPS AND OUTINGS COMMITTEE plans full day and overnight trips to regional destinations and shorter outings to local museums, theaters, sports events and other venues. Meets the second Friday of each month, 3:00 p.m., in the Board Room. VETERANS COMMITTEE is open to all GHBC residents who have served in the military. They sponsor films, arrange trips, and conduct programs of historical military interest for all GHBC residents. Meets the first Monday of the month in the Top of the West, 1:30 p.m. Contact Chair: Jean Reed, apt. 475, ext. 3121, 2023 Resident Council Liaison: Don Gurney.
