MENU NARRATIVE WEEK OF AUGUST 3
Goodwin House Bailey's Crossroads has three dining venues: the Jefferson Dining Room, Fireside, and the Bistro.
The Director and Assistant Director of Dining Services supervises the department; managers and supervisors are responsible for service in the three venues, catering, and employee scheduling and training. A registered dietitian helps develop menus and special diets. The Director and Assistant Director, Executive Chef, Executive Sous Chef, and the Dining Services management team oversee food preparation.
Jefferson Dining Room
The Jefferson Dining Room is a formal dining venue serving lunch and dinner, with full waited service. Three-course menus are presented and orders taken at the table. Meals are served in courses. A self-serve salad bar is available.
Reservations are required for dinner (including Sunday midday) and brunch. Click HERE to go to reservations page. Reservations for special event dinners are limited to eight per resident and must be made by phoning ext. 7645((same extension is used for the Fireside, so be sure you specify for which venue you are reserving). Reservations are generally opened at 8 a.m. two weeks before the special event.
There is a minimal dress code: short shorts, hats/caps, rubber/shower flip flops not permitted. It is the responsibility of the resident to make sure their guests dress appropriately.
Residents and their guests are welcomed to join brunches from time to time. Guest brunch meals are not covered by dining dollars.
To-go orders for lunch may be placed at the Host stand between 11:30 and 12:00 noon. The dinner meal may be ordered To Go by calling ext. 7254 between 3:30 and 4:30. The order is to be picked up between 4:30 and 5:00. Do not leave a message on voice mail.
Fireside is a contemporary-styled dining venue that opened in December 2017. The relaxed and casual atmosphere offers seating around an inviting grey stone fireplace at tables covered with white tablecloths.

Friendly wait staff take orders and serve specialties, including soup, hot and cold appetizers, pizzas (gluten-free flatbread crust is available), pasta, and desserts. Beverages, including beer and wine, are served.
Effective December 26, 2019, Fireside is open three nights a week, Friday through Sunday, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
To-go orders may be placed by phone, ext. 7309, between 5:00 and 7:30 p.m. Items may be picked up 20 minutes after the order is placed. Do not leave a message on voice mail. Residents also have the option to place to-go orders with the Hostess.
The Bistro is a casual, open-air dining venue with an open exhibition kitchen. All items are priced à la carte. Service in the Bistro is not waited, and items are brought from the kitchen as they are prepared. Seating is open; people come and go at a table as space and preference permits.
Residents are encouraged to use self-service options to get beverages. If purchased, a bowl of soup and items from the salad bar are also self-serve.
Breakfast is served only in the Bistro.
The Bistro is open daily from 7:30 a.m. — 8:00 p.m.

Self Serve Kiosk To Go orders may be placed in the Bistro Monday - Sunday 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Pick up will be in the Lounge.
Dining Dollars is a declining balance system that gives residents the flexibility to choose from a variety of dining venues, meal options, and price points. Residents are divided into three groups alphabetically by last name, A-G, H-O, and P-Z. For residents A-G, the dining dollars "month" begins on the first day of the month and ends on the last day. For residents H-O, the dining dollars "month" begins on the 11th of the month and ends on the 10th day of the following month. For residents P-Z, the dining dollars "month" begins on the 21st of the month and ends on the 20th day of the following month.
There is no official dress code at GHBC, but for dining in the Jefferson Dining Room we ask that residents and their guests dress appropriately — short shorts, hats/caps, rubber/shower flip flops not permitted. It is the responsibility of the resident to make sure their guests dress appropriately. Fireside and The Bistro offer casual dining experiences.
Guests of Residents
Guests of residents are always welcome. For meals in the Jefferson Dining Room, residents may pay for guest meals with their Resident Charge in the Jefferson or in the Bistro by check, cash or charge. All alcoholic items in the Lounge, Bistro and Fireside may be paid for only by cash or credit card or Resident Charge.
Each independent living resident may use up to four Guest Meal Coupons each month. Guest Meal Coupons are available in the Market Place Monday thru Friday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. At other times and on weekends, coupons can be picked up at the Jefferson Dining Room hostess stand. Guest Meal Coupons are deducted from the resident's monthly Dining Dollars; they cannot be used for Holidays, Brunch or Special Events and are non-transferable.
Health Care Center, Assisted Living, and Terrace
Residents in the Health Care Center, Assisted Living, and the Terrace may select items from the menus provided at each meal, subject to their physicians' orders. Meals are served in resident rooms, in the Household Dining Rooms on the Second Floor, or in the Dining Rooms on the Third Floor. All residents are welcome in the Jefferson Dining Room, Fireside, or Bistro.
Patio Gas Grill
During the summer, a gas grill is available to residents for their personal use. The grill is located on the patio outside the Board Room in the Crossroads Building. Here are a few housekeeping guidelines to follow:
- Residents are responsible for turning the grill on (electric start) and off.
- Residents are responsible for cleaning and scraping grates (tools will be provided).
- Residents are responsible for re-covering and fastening grill cover (once cool) after each use.
- Fire extinguisher is located on the patio near the grill.
- For mechanical failure or an emergency, contact facilities management/front desk by dialing 0.
Substitute food items are always available for residents who are unable to eat the regular menu. Residents having special physician-ordered dietary needs are encouraged to discuss their limitations with the dietitian by appointment. Substitute items should be requested from an employee or supervisor.
Room Service is available from our "Week at a Glance" menu (the menu that is served in the Jefferson Dining Room). There is an additional $4.00 charge for delivery. Call ext. 7645 at least one hour before the scheduled mealtime to request room service and place your order. Mealtimes are: Lunch 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and Dinner 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
