2023 Holiday Dining Schedule:

December 24 Christmas Eve Candlelight Dinner in the Jefferson Dining Room & the Bistro 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. JDR will be closed for lunch. Bistro menu not available after 3:00 p.m. Fireside will be closed.

December 25 Christmas Day Breakfast in the Bistro 7:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

December 25 Holiday Meal in the Jefferson Dining Room & the Bistro 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

December 25 Grab & Go Sandwiches, Salads and Soup for Takeout in the Bistro only 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Bistro menu is not available and Bistro closes at 6:00 p.m. Fireside will be closed.

December 31 New Year’s Eve Candlelight Dinner in the Jefferson Dining Room & the Bistro 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. JDR will be closed for lunch. Bistro menu not available after 3:00 p.m. Fireside will be closed.

January 1 New Year’s Day Holiday Brunch in the Jefferson Dining Room 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Jefferson Dining Room & Fireside will be closed in the evening. Bistro will be open with normal hours and menu.

Reservations:

Reservations are required for all holiday meals in the Jefferson Dining Room. Bistro will be available for walk-ins (no reservation required). Appropriate dress required at all holiday meals.

Christmas Eve & Christmas Day Limited Seating, Reservations Required. Please Call Ext. 7645 beginning 9:00 a.m. on Friday, December 15.

New Year’s Eve & New Year’s Day Limited Seating, Reservations Required. Please Call Ext. 7645 beginning 9:00 a.m. on Friday, December 22.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Goodwin House Bailey's Crossroads has three dining venues: the Jefferson Dining Room (JDR), Fireside, and the Bistro. All are open to fully vaccinated guests. Reservations are required for dining in the Jefferson and Fireside. GHBC is also now welcoming Goodwin House at Home members and Priority Club members who have been fully vaccinated to enjoy these dining venues. Dining with Health Care Center Residents: Family members who live at GHBC may eat with the resident in the HCC household or main level dining spaces (Jefferson, Fireside and Bistro). All other family members and loved ones may eat with HCC residents in their rooms or in the main level dining spaces.

In September 2022, the Dining Services Committee conducted a survey of Independent Living residents to identify the strengths of the GHBC food choices and dining experience, and areas in need of improvement. The results of that survey are reported below.

Jefferson Dining Room
The JDR is open Monday to Sunday for dine-in a la carte table-service for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The JDR is open Monday to Saturday for dine-in a la carte table-service or server-assisted buffet for dinner from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. To make reservations for dine-in service in the JDR call ext. 7645, or go to the Reservations page at this resident website. Reservations are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome.

Bistro
The Bistro is open Monday to Sunday for dine-in a la carte service. Effective March 27, 2023, hours are 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Breakfast is served 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Eggs, bacon, toast and omelets are available all day. The "always available" menu is served from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Weekly specials include a breakfast special, a sandwich and a salad special. The Bistro does not take reservations.

Fireside
Fireside is open for dinner three nights a week, Thursday through Saturday. It is be closed Sunday to Wednesday. Reservations are available for dine-in a la carte table service in Fireside for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Carry-out service is available on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings. Dining Services Survey
The Dining Services Committee in September 2022 conducted a survey of Independent Living residents to identify the strengths of the GHBC food choices and dining experience, and areas in need of improvement. Two thirds of all IL residents responded to the survey. Overalll, residents gave strongly positive ratings to dining at GHBC, although several areas of improvement were identified. The DS Committee plans to conduct the survey semiannually.

Other Dining Services
Illness or Quarantine 
Residents who are in quarantine or ill and not able to pick up their meals may receive room delivery service by calling the Clinic at ext. 7227. Dining Services will deliver a packet with the menus for the week. Please fill them out and return them to the chair outside your apartment the same day to ensure your meals will be delivered. If you are still under quarantine, Dining Services will deliver another packet on the following Friday. Please fill out the menus and return to the chair outside your apartment by Saturday to ensure your meals are delivered. If you have any questions, please call the Dining Services Supervisor line at ext. 7645.

The Lounge is open Mondays to Saturdays from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Lounge also offers drinks to go.

The Market Place is open Monday to Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Takeout Containers: Please return all green reusable takeout containers to the beverage area outside the Market Place. Containers should be emptied of food and well rinsed before returning them. To avoid attracting pests, do not put containers there after 7:00 p.m. 

Dining Dollars: Each month, each resident receives a Dining Dollars credit equal to $13.60 times the number of days in the month. Dining expenses above that are charged to the resident’s monthly account. Whether you eat in a table-service venue or take out, a full meal is charged at $3.00 for breakfast, $6.56 for lunch, and $13.60 for dinner for the weekly menu. A la carte pricing is available in the Jefferson Dining Room for those who select two items or less, and in the Bistro and Fireside for all items. All non-alcoholic beverages are free. 

Wine: On Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, house wine is $3.75 per glass. On Wine Nights (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays), house wine is complimentary with the purchase of an entree. If you have reservations to eat in any dining venue, or in the Bistro without reservations, you are always welcome to bring your own wine or beer. Wine glasses will be provided upon request. 

Health Care Center, Assisted Living, and Terrace
Residents in the Health Care Center, Assisted Living and the Terrace may select items from the menus provided at each meal, subject to their physicians' orders. 

Special Diets
Substitute food items are always available for residents who are unable to eat the regular menu. Residents having special physician-ordered dietary needs are encouraged to discuss their limitations with the dietitian by appointment. Substitute items should be requested from an employee or supervisor. 

Management
The Director and Assistant Director of Dining Services supervise the department; managers and supervisors are responsible for service in the venues, catering, employee scheduling, and training. A registered dietitian helps develop menus and special diets. The Director and Assistant Director, Executive Chef, Executive Sous Chef, and the Dining Services management team oversee food preparation.
